EET (PAT) Testing - Whats Included

Visual Check

Our technicians will inspect each appliance, cable, and plug for visible damage—such as frayed wires, cracks, or bent pins—to identify any immediate safety concerns before testing.

Internal Check

Technicians will perform electrical safety tests using a PAT tester to check earth continuity, insulation resistance, and polarity, ensuring the appliance is safe to use.

Label Application

Once tested, each item will be fitted with a clear label showing the result (pass or fail), the test date, and when the next test is due. This helps identify the status of each appliance.

Certification

Finally, a formal certificate or test report will be issued, detailing the appliances tested, results, and the technician responsible. This serves as official documentation for compliance.

Benefits of Regular EET (PAT) Testing

EET (PAT) Testing is not always a legal requirement in every circumstance, but it is widely recognised as best practice for ensuring the safety of electrical appliances in a business or workplace.

  3. Insurance and Claims: Many insurance companies require evidence of EET (PAT) testing for claims related to electrical accidents.
  4. Protecting Equipment: Identifies faults early, preventing costly breakdowns and ensuring equipment functions as expected.
  5. Industry Standards and Best Practice: Industry guidelines suggest EET (PAT) testing as a best practice.
  6. Employee Confidence and Reputation: Regular EET (PAT) testing shows commitment to employee welfare, building trust.
  7. Peace of Mind: Provides assurance that electrical appliances are safe, reducing the chances of accidents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EET (PAT) testing?

EET (PAT) testing involves the inspection and testing of electrical appliances to ensure they are safe to use. It helps businesses comply with regulations and maintain a safe working environment.

Do new items need testing?

Generally a brand new item will come with a one year warranty and not require PAT testing within the first year, however if not tested please keep proof that its less than a year old if there are any issues.

How often should appliances be tested?

The frequency of testing depends on the type of appliance and the environment in which it is used. Generally, appliances should be tested at least once a year.

Do items need to be turned off to be tested?

Yes all items will need to be turned off for testing unless agreed otherwise and a visual inspection can take place. A PAT test requires the item to be plugged into our machine to determine insulation resistance and earth bonding.
